BALLET – is the most formal of the Classical ballet styles; it adheres to traditional ballet technique. This discipline must be performed using the Classical Ballet Technique and style and may be performed in soft ballet slippers or Pointe shoes. Lyric, Modern and Contemporary dances may not be performed in this discipline. All participants are divided according to age: Juvenile – 7-11 ετών, Junior – 12-15 ετών, Youth – 16-18 ετών, Adults – 19+.
CONTEMPORARY GROUP – dance is a more relaxed, free style of dance in which choreographer’s uses emotions and moods to design their own steps, in contrast to ballet’s structured code of steps. It has a deliberate use of gravity, whereas ballet strives to be light and airy. Contemporary Ballet should not be confused with Modern Dance, and may not compete in this discipline. All participants are divided according to age: Juvenile I - 7-9 years, Juvenile II - 9-11 years old, Junior I - 12-13 years old, Junior II - 14-15 years old, Youth - 16 -18 years old, Adults - 19+.
DEBUT CONTEMPORARY GROUP - teams are considered to be those in which 80% of their members dance for the first time in a dance competition within the year of its performance (e.g. for the year 2023, 8 out of 10 gymnasts must not have danced in a competition before 1/ 1/2023). Participants are divided according to age: Juvenile – 7-11 years, Junior – 12-15 years, Youth – 16-18 years, Adults – 19+. Acrobatics, lifts, props, props are allowed.
CONTEMPORARY SOLO – Dancers in the Contemporary solo categories dance with all participants “IN THE HEATS”, and can also compete in the next age category. The music is selected by the organizers of "KAVALA OPEN" and is available on the website. MODERN – JAZZ – is based either on any Jazz, Lyrical, Ballet and Contemporary dance technique, allows the use of acrobatics, props, lip-sync and other theatrical effects and shall be based on a concept, story, theme or idea. The concept, story, theme or idea must be fully understandable and will be expressed bymeans of dance movements that adhere to the piece being presented, along with being creative,imaginative and original. All participants are divided according to age: Juvenile I - 7-9 years, Juvenile II - 9-11 years old, Junior I - 12-13 years old, Junior II - 14-15 years old, Youth - 16 -18 years old, Adults - 19+.

SHOW SOLO, DUET, TRIO– Participants dance separately and use their own music and the duration is from 1:30 to 2:00 minutes. Athletes will have 15 seconds for the entry and 15 seconds for the exit. The presentation must be thematic and stand out in choreography, costume and music. Props, lifts, stunts and acrobatics are allowed. Participants are divided according to age: Juvenile – 7-11 years, Junior – 12-15 years, Youth – 16-18 years, Adults – 19+.
ACROBATIC DANCE – shall include many techniques, such as tumbling, balancing, contortions, and aerial tricks without hands and controlled movement, as well as acrobatic elements, static elements, jumps, hand support elements, turns, rolls, walkovers and saltos, all of which should be connected with dance movement and dance combinations. The emphasis is on strength, stretch, control and ease of movement, no matter what technique is being used. Musicality, variety of acrobatic elements and dance itself, originality of composition as well as harmony of concept, music, choreography and acrobatic elements will be highly evaluated. All participants are divided according to age: Juvenile - 7-11 years old, Junior - 12-15 years old, Adults - 19+.
SHOW DANCE – category is free style and based on any Disco Dance, Aerobic dance, Latino Zumba, Step dance, Majorette, Michael Jackson Show, Cheerleaders, Twirling and should be have concept, theme or idea. All participants are divided according to age: Juvenile - 7-11 years old, Junior - 12-15 years old, Adults - 16+.
DISCO DANCE – is a dance style heavily dependent on disco music. Disco music consists of loud, booming vocals over a steady beat and bass. Disco dance to the music in your own way while wearing disco inspired clothing. Disco consists of steps and movements performed in time to the beats of disco music. Some common elements of disco dancing include side steps between longer moves, raising your arms overhead, large hip and pelvic movements, and twisting your arms in time to the beat.
KANGOO JUMPS – is a type of exercise that combines aerobic exercise with dance. It was discovered by a Canadian doctor, with the aim of restoring and protecting the spine and muscle groups. But what makes it special and stands out from other types of gymnastics are the specially designed boots with plates on the bottom (magic boots), which give the possibility of jumping like a "kangaroo", while at the same time protecting the body from vibrations during training duration. Participants are divided according to age: Juvenile – 7-11 years, Junior – 12-15 years, Adults – 16+.
PRODUCTION (Mega Group) – is a large group (at least 16 participants) of different ages that allows dancers to perform with participants from different dance categories (Modern-Jazz, Contemporary, Acrobatic). The dance style can change depending on the decisions of the choreographer and the group must be unique in that it creates and maintains a special connection between the participants to create a truly unforgettable performance with beautiful choreography, spectacle, costumes and the use of any scenery.
